The Area

Richy Sathorn Taksin is located next to BTS Wong Wei Yai( silom line) and a few stations away from Sathorn. Stretching from Lumpini Park south to the river, Sathorn contains some of Bangkok's trendiest hotels like the Metropolitan, the Sukhothai and Banyan Tree. The area also boasts many upmarket serviced apartments and a variety of fine restaurants serving up excellent local and international cuisine. The Bangkok Skytrain (BTS) runs along most part of this road with stations at Surasak and Saphan Taksin. Sathorn is one of Bangkok's 'newest' areas and has seen phenomenal growth over recent years, mostly as a result of its outstanding location close to prime areas like Silom, Siam, the riverside and Sukhumvit Road. It's particularly popular too with an ever-increasing expat community, long-stay visitors and business travellers. Sathorn also hosts a number of Bangkok’s best known rooftop bars with Vertigo and Moon Bar at the Banyan Tree Hotel and The Skybar at the Lebua State tower.

Thonburi does get its fair share of visitors, many of whom shuffle onto the regular ferries that make the short but fun journey across Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River to the western side. Whilst the majority of tourists that venture this way come to stay in one of the stunning riverside hotels or to see Thonburi’s star-attraction, the iconic Wat Arun Temple, this ever-developing area has so much more to offer. With untouched local villages hugging the narrow water-ways, fascinating museums and quaint local markets, there’s plenty of interesting, off-the-beaten-path things to do and see in Thonburi. Most of the best attractions in Thonburi are quickly becoming more accessible - particularly for those not familiar with Bangkok - with the western expansion of the city’s BTS Skytrain route.

Bangkok is famous for its series of canals and water-ways which once served as the main form of transport. Today, the ‘Khlongs’ (as they’re known in Thai) still serve commuters and tourists who want to get around town whilst enjoy the city from a whole new perspective. The best place to explore Bangkok’s meandering Khlongs is Thonburi. The whole area has a comprehensive section of waterways, offering visitors the chance to see a more ‘local’ side of Bangkok. Pass by families eating lunch in their wooden homes, see children playing in the secluded streets alleys and glide past unspoilt markets without a tourist in sight. Wat Arun. This ancient temple is one of Bangkok’s most iconic temples thanks to its stunning riverside location and unique design with its towering central pagoda. Known locally as Wat Chaeng and sometimes romantically referred to as the ‘Temple of Dawn’, this breathtaking Buddhist monument is a firm favourite etched into the travel itineraries of the millions of visitors who visit Bangkok every year.

Fueled by demographic change and concerns over quality of life, there has been a growing interest in communities with active transportation modes. Housing and transportation, the two economic sectors mostly closely tied to the built environment. There has been a growing effort among planners, real estate professionals, and economists to identify not only the economic benefits of transportation modes in and of themselves, but also the impact that they have on housing prices and value growth.

The real estate mantra of "location, location, location" is more important than ever. Moving beyond the traditional arguments that good schools and neighborhood amenities impact housing prices, emerging research has indicated that urban form and transportation options have played a key role in the ability of residential properties to maintain their value. Consumers are willing to pay more for housing located in areas that exemplify new urbanist principles or are "traditional neighborhood developments." These neighborhoods are walkable, higher density, and have a mix of uses as well as access to jobs and amenities such as transit.
